Well, Its the start of a new year! So hard to believe but so nice to feel a fresh start. I'll spare you from my resolutions and promises of blogging daily. I will say that I have for the first time written down specific goals I want to accomplish this year. I've been very realistic in my approach and have edited them down so I feel they are attainable. I hope each of you do the same whether small or large. Hopefully, I'll continue to provide a small bit of inspiration to your day throughout this upcoming year. Happy 2012!

Hello everyone. Yes, I am still around. All I can say is it has been a very interesting last couple of months and I found myself not really feeling inspired to blog - frankly quite uninspired, hence the hiatus. Now, with fall fast approaching I'm feeling like it's time to get back in the blogging swing of things. I hope you all are doing smashing and are enjoying all of the nice cool fall weather. So here's to fall, blogging and being able to layer clothes!

Thoughts on Blogging

Its safe to say I could easily join these three today. Its Wednesday and it already feels like a full week. Yesterday, I was reading through a couple of blogs quickly and I happened on a post by Tommy of Specs Appeal and it really made me think. He was questioning why one blogs.

This is a question I have asked myself on a few occasions. For me, I always come back to inspiration and the idea that your able to express that inspiration in a medium with like minded people. Also, the fact that someone actually reads and comments is always a huge boost. My blog is small in comparison to many others and really my process of posting is a bit organic. I'm not at the place to take on advertisers or be offered anything of that nature, but I do see many blogs doing that as of late. I have to say in some cases it seems to change the blog and the personal feel is lost a bit for me, but I can see where in some cases it allows small business a means to advertise in a cost effective manner. I think it's all in the delivery and the way they are presented on the blog.

Plus, another reason I blog is it seems guy bloggers are few and far between and represent a different view in the blogosphere which I think is a nice addition. All in all my point is that my blog is just a small space that allows me to express whatever inspiration I come across on a day to day basis. Whether it be work related or something I've seen or read, it allows me a space to share in hopes that it might interest you the reader. I'm curious to know why you blog?

Hello bloggers, it's been a while.... my apologies. Summer seems to be in full motion and it's hard to believe that we are almost halfway through July. I hope all of you are having a great one! I have been quite busy on projects and all things work related. I squeezed in a vacation to CA and find myself still trying to play catch up. I have so many blogs to catch up on and hope to get back on the blogging train. On another note, have you guys been watching Million Dollar Decoraters? I have to say that with each passing episode they have become better and better. I really hate to see the season come to a close. I have become quite addicted and find myself watching the same episodes over and over....Thank you Bravo.... or should I say Your Welcome Bravo?

Drapery Drama

Just wanted to post a picture of my latest project that I completed. Everything turned out nicely but I must say the drapes are the stand out feature. I knew I had to bring some major drama to those windows, so with the addition of the light fixture and installing the draperies things became very dramatic.....just what I wanted!

Million Dollar Kathryn

Next up on Bravo's "Million Dollar Decorators" is none other than Kathryn Ireland. Kathryn really has one of the most comfortable aesthetics of the designers on the show. Her genius is the fact it seems as if a designer was never there.

I love her use of textures and layers, both keys in making a space feel warm and lived in. I think her style could be summed up as "bohemian chic". She's worked with numerous celebrities so it should be interesting what she brings to the show.

Below is a picture I found of Andy Cohen partying with some of the cast of "Million Dollar Decorators" along with "Real Housewife" Cindy Barshop. I'm a huge WWHL fan so I hope he brings the decorators on his show....I'm sure it would be good TV!

Today I'm showing the work of Jeffery Allan Marks. He will be featured on Bravo's new upcoming show "Million Dollar Decorators". I have to admit that I was not familiar with his work up to this point, but once I did some research I quickly realized I had seen his work in Elle Decor last year.

Everything came back to me very quickly once I saw the photos and I was able to put a designer with the images. I remember thinking that the hanging boat in the first photo was genius!

Jeffery's style is very relaxed and definitely a space one could live in and add to. His design perspective is what I would describe as a very relaxed, casual elegance. He has also done some beautiful commercial work as well.

I have a feeling that he will make for some good TV...

Million Dollar Mary

Over the next week I'm going to profile the designers of the upcoming Bravo show "Million Dollar Decorators". I can't express how excited I am for this show. I have said for some time now that there needed to be a reality show about this business because it would make great TV.

Today I have posted some work of Mary McDonald. She really is a phenomenal decorator in the sense she knows scale and color and how to combine the two. Scale is so important and being able to determine what a space needs is a key factor to any great space. Her bold use of color to accentuate the space is pure perfection.

Personally, I love Mary's draperies in all of her rooms. She combines multiple colors and layers to really add that unexpected punch all while making them seem completely effortless. She is an amazing decorator and I am so excited to get to see a glimpse into her process and business. I think she is going to be one of my faves...

I had the most amazing opportunity this past weekend meet and speak with the legend....Bunny Williams. She was giving a lecture on her design business and how she sees design progressing in the future. Her stories were so refreshing, she was completely candid about her business and her design perspective.

She has a way of making you feel like your just at her house sharing a cup of coffee chatting. It was a complete honor just to hear lecture much less to speak with her. Her insight and knowledge about the design process is so impressive. She has the ability to de-construct a room unlike anyone I have ever seen. It was a wonderful experience to say the least.

Oh, and she shared one of the most candid stories of Sister Parrish I had ever heard....we were all rolling out of our seats in laughter!

I had no clue about this until I was reading this months Elle Decor and saw the full page ad and was thrilled! This is going to be good tv! I'm very curious to see how they balance the clients and thier one-on-one relationship with the cameras rolling. Anytime you have clients with money thats good tv. I hear that they have pushed the air date up till late May. So we will have to wait and see, but what a great group of designers. Have any of you heard about this?

On another note I have been absent for some time. This year has been super busy and alot of great things have happened in the last couple months both personally and professionaly. So thats my recap and I'm back on the blogging roll.

I'm back from my long blogging hiatus. I had an amazing holiday with family and friends and couldn't be more excited for the new year. I have literally hit the ground running again! So many projects in the works I couldn't be happier. I'm not one for resolutions but I do like to reflect on the past year and think about what I want more of in the coming year. I really hope to amp up the blogging a bit and really continue to take you guys along for the ride as a do what I love. I know, I know everyone says that the beginning of the year, but I really do mean it. I have to say thanks to everyone who has read since July and has so nicely commented. It means the world. I hope everyone is having a great week! Only a few more days till Christmas, which is unbelievable to me. Today I wanted to share some images of a home I completed last year. It was a beautiful home located at The Greenbrier. The house was plain vanilla, nothing was in it and we transformed it in 4 weeks...I'm still amazed by that. The tree is my favorite of all the ones I have done and that gold, hand carved, dear head is amazing. I hope these shots add a little holiday cheer to your day...

Well, I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and is getting geared up for Christmas. Things have been extremely busy for me, which is the reason for the lack of blog posts. I thought I would share with you some pictures of my latest project that just wrapped up. I had the most fun working with these clients who just relocated to this new home. This house was plain vanilla, nothing was in the space at all....so we got to start from scratch which is the best. My goal was to have a eclectic elegant space that had a classic urban feel. For their bedroom they wanted over the top Asian, so I think it was accomplished very well with out it being to in your face. I hope you enjoy these shots and are having a great week!

Well, I hope everyone had an excellent weekend. Its Monday and the first of November...can you believe that? Everything is going to be non-stop till the first of the year so, I took advantage of the low key weekend and "winterized" my room. You know the drill, putting up all the summer clothes and shoes, replacing my summer bedding with winter bedding, stocking my nightstand with the books I wanna read during winter. Everything is nice and cozy. I also put up my old medicine cabinet I found this summer for $1 and placed all of my cologne in it...which I thought was pretty cool. So, that's a wrap of my weekend, hope everyone has a great Monday...

I must say written correspondence is a lost art, and one I find myself guilty of. I think it's always special when you receive a written note from someone. You know they have taken time out of their busy life to sit down and express their thoughts...that means a lot. I think everyone should have nice quality social stationary at the ready. Whether its a simple thank you or just a quick note... nice stationary is a must. Mr. Boddington does stationary well. I use this stationary, more specifically, the Wolfgang pictured above. Check out Mr. Boddington's work, they do beautiful, classic stationary, oh and gorgeous Christmas cards and invitations. Now, I'm going to place my order, cause I'm running low..

It's Monday so I thought it appropriate to show you some beautiful images to start the week off right. I have been a fan of Barry Dixon's work for sometime now. I friend of mine worked with him on a project and told me about his designs ,as well as, the first class guy he is and I have been a fan ever since. I passed Mr. Dixon this past weekend on the street in High Point but didn't have the chance to speak. So, I thought I should do a post about his work. He uses space very well and in a way that adds interest to the space. He also has the ability to make a space feel very warm without lots of busy accessories. Beautiful,classic, timeless design sums up his work perfect. For more information check out his website. ~Blogging Book Club -~ Week 1

As you know the blogging book club is well under way and I hope everyone is enjoying The Help. Hopefully, you are beginning to understand the characters as they develop and are having a hard time putting it down. The characters really come to life fast, at least they did for me.

It took Kathryn Stockett five years to right her debut novel and it was rejected by at least 45 literary agents. I'm so glad someone took a chance on this novel because, not only is it a great read, but I think it sheds a lot of light into the social dynamic of the early 1960's.

As your reading this post I'm on my way out of town heading back to my alma mater for homecoming weekend. I'm really excited, its always a great time going back and seeing old friends and attending the game. I posted some pictures above that remind me of collegiate life. I love the preppy ensembles and I am head over hills for that turtle neck sweater, but if you know anything about me you know the last thing I need is another sweater!

Today is the day! The book club officially gets under way. I'm very excited about it. Its starting small and I think that's a good thing. The book will be an excellent read to carry us through October. I understand everyone reads at their own pace and we all live busy lives. I also understand this will be a very loose format for a book club, but I think by it being online it allows for that. So, with that said Tuesday will be our official Book Club Day.

I will post on Tuesdays about the book and I encourage you guys to post comments about the book along the way - message board style. I really hope you get behind this book and enjoy the club. This post is an Inspiration Post for my friend Britt. She is in the process of buying her first home in Atlanta and we have been talking a lot about decorating. First, anyone who knows Britt knows that her middle name should've been pink. It's kinda like what peanut butter is to jelly, pink is to Brittney. So, with that said its safe to say that pink will need to be incorporated into her decor. Along with pink, I love the idea of black & white stripes along with soft turquoise to really add a sophisticated punch. There are a ton more options to think about, but I think these images really embody who Britt is and what she wants to convey in her first home. Bold, sophisticated, classic, girly living. So, let the journey begin, can't wait to help my friend as she embarks on this next step!

Just received the October issue of Details and I have to say its one of their best in a long time. I'm a huge Mad Men fan ,as well as, Jon Hamm, so I was thrilled when I saw the cover. I think this is one of the best interviews with Jon Hamm I have read. Very honest and open interview about his personal struggle with acting. It was refreshing to here him open up about how hard it was for him to turn something he loved doing into a profitable career. Personally, I think he is the epitome of masculinity and really channels the era of Cary Grant, Rock Hudson and Paul Newman. So be sure and check this interview out....it's a good one.

Well, I'm back at it again! I had the most unbelievable time this past weekend, my best friend was married and had what seem to be a small college reunion. There's something special to be said about picking up where you left off with friends from years ago. Now that I'm back in the swing of things I'm looking forward to some upcoming exciting things for the blog.

Well, I am on my way out of town for the remainder of the week through the weekend. I'm heading to my best friends wedding! I'm so excited for Jen and this next stage of her life. I am a big fan of J. Crew and have been for a while now. So, Its no surprise that I am really loving the new fall catalog featuring the cast of "The Romantics" decked out in the latest fall pieces.

Katie Holmes is a perfect fit for the brand if you ask me, its refreshing to see her channel a more chic Joey Potter. It brings back memories of more than 10 years ago when the cast of Dawson's Creek appeared in the pages of the catalogue.

Josh Duhamel looks very sharp ,as well as, Adam Brody and the cupcakes look delicious, so whats not to love. My hat is off to J. Crew they are really turning out some amazing things these days. So, let the fall shopping begin I say! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I have been a fan of Ruthie Sommers ever since that wonderful issue of Domino that showcased Drew Barrymore's apartment (I'm really excited for 'Going the Distance' btw). I love her design perspective, she is one of my faves. Look at that picture wall...pure genius! Her designs are comfortable, unpretentious, warm with a touch of elegance. One thing I love are the new Fall TV shows, and this one looks really good. Very different its called a 'mockumentary' which are fictitious events in a documentary format...yea that was a new one for me too. Its called 'My Generation' and seems extremely relatable for me. Sorry for the lack of posts the past few days. It has been a whirlwind weekend so far. I have been in Virginia since Thursday. My friend Britt is re-locating to Atlanta, so we all got together before she headed out today.

I'm back home now and am sitting down to enjoy the newest issue of Garden & Gun...one of my favorites. The coffee is brewed, getting ready to start The Real Housewives of D.C. and catch up on magazine reading. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

*BEFORE SHOTS*

This is going to be a two part post. I recently finished installing my latest clients living room and dining area and the results were great. As you can see from these before shots...umm there was some work to be done, but it was a blast!

First - The floors were ripped out and beautiful new hickory flooring was laid through out the entire house.

Second - The walls were painted and crown molding was placed all around the house to really add some interest to the walls.

Third - The fireplace mantle was scratched and I had a new one installed to add a little 'wow' and a much needed mantle.

Fourth & Final - All the furniture was ditched and the shopping began...

The goal for this space was to have a cozy,comfortable, cottage look that was conducive for a family with two kids and two dogs. I think that it was achieved....check out the next post!

So, I'm sitting here right now watching Nate Berkus on HSN and it made me dig though the inspiration folder for images in Elle Decor of his apartment in Milan. Its absolutely phenomenal! Its a bit more modern for my taste, but with that said, its so warm.

Nate has a great ability to make a space feel warm, inviting, and comfortable with minimal objects. He is one of my favorites and I admire his work immensely. Also, looking forward to his new show come September....

This soap is great stuff!

Its called "Happy Me All Over" and its a phenomenal soap. It has a great clean, citrusy smell and is so refreshing. Its refreshing but not in that "I bathed in a bottle of Brut" kinda way...this isn't your grandpa's soap!

You can pick this up at Sharpsnyc.com or Barney's and it's around $6.50 a bar..so not too bad....check it out!

I have been a fan of Bella Notte Linens for sometime now, and I thought I would show you some of their amazing bedding. One thing I love is the color options they offer - charcoal & graphite being my favorite.

Bella Notte offers everything from the very frilly, romantic bedding to the more masculine understated bedding as shown above. It really is some of the best out there and it last forever, the more you use it the better it gets - so whats not to love.

I am so excited to get this book! Originally published in 1965, this book by T. Hayashida was a compilation of photos taken at Ivy League schools across America showcasing the "Ivy Style." Original copies are highly sought after and hard to come by, but the good news is its being re-released and available for pre-order on Amazon. Plus, its only $13.47....which makes it a must have!

There is one little reason I'm excited for this weekend and I'm sure you can guess why from the picture above. Mad Men premieres on Sunday and I couldn't be more thrilled. This show has it all great storyline, awesome actors and one heck of a wardrobe.

Every time I watch I feel as if I'm being transported back 50 years ago... and I love it! If for some reason you haven't watched it, do your self a favor and tune in Sunday night...you will be hooked - I promise.

So, I finally got around to posting pictures from The Greenbrier Casino Opening. What a night! The whole evening was a bit of a blur but so memorable.

The casino is absolutely stunning...compliments of Mr. Carleton Varney ( above). He is such an icon in the design community and really knocked it out of the park on the casino. The biggest challenge was marrying the resort with the casino and the result was seamless!

I had the opportunity to have a 15 minute conversation with Debbie Reynolds...totally a dream come true...I am such an old movie buff so just to meet her, let alone sit and speak with her was epic.

All in all, the night was a beautiful experience and it was a true honor to be able to attend.

Oh and I met Jessica Simpson...she is flawless in person and so sweet...

I think its no secret that Kate Spade is a genius. This is her apartment and it is one of my favorite spaces. All of the elements that are in each room are a bit unpredictable but so cohesive.

These images of this apartment have been in my inspiration folder for sometime and thought I would share them with everyone. They have been posted a lot on different blogs but I absolutely love them....genius I say.

Keep an inspiration folder or notebook of all the things that inspire you. Whether it be images, rooms, fabric or who knows what else - keep it. Its a great way to pull together the things that inspire you and use later for reference.

I have been meaning to post these pictures for some time now of my trip to D.C. It was so much fun to meet up with some old friends from college and just hang out and catch up on life...On a side note if you are in D.C. you have to go to Bread & Chocolate...oh my word...that french toast was to-die-for!

While we were there we went to the Imogen Heap concert - she is incredible live - my friend Jen (to the right of me) and her fiance Dustin took me to all the great spots in D.C. and we did a little shopping as well - aka Dean & Deluca = heaven.

I'm heading out again tomorrow for a long weekend in Virginia and I couldn't be more excited! Also tomorrow, I celebrate 25 years of existence, hard to believe, when I return I will be sure to post pictures of my trip ,as well as, some pictures from The Greenbrier Casino opening a couple of weeks ago.

Well, I got a little birthday present early...Yes, my birthday is Thursday and my Dad surprised me with this book. I'm almost half way through, such a great read. It really gives a great back drop to Breakfast at Tiffany's and provides alot of insight to the iconic film. If you haven't seen the movie do yourself a favor...its timeless.

There are many things I love one being stripes...be it on a pillow, shirt or wall paper like the room above. I think there is a classic timeless appeal to stripes and they add instant class to anything.

*TIP*
Add a couple of striped pillows to your sofa, throw one on your bed and for the more eager ones of you out there apply a striped wall paper to an accent wall...you will be surprised what it will do to your room.

The second thing I'm loving is the book by Tom Ford. Its been out for sometime now and I see it alot on different blogs. Its such a great coffee table book but a little pricey...I'm going to hold out and see if I luck up one day and find it on one of my explorations...here's hope'in.

A few weeks back I picked up this candle at Anthropologie while I was in D.C. It's called Capri Blue and it smells awesome...great fresh clean scent for the summer. Another plus is it burns slow...so more burn for your buck!

*TIP*
When you get to the bottom of your candle and all the goodness is gone place your candle in a pot of hot water and allow the wax to melt. Pour the remaining wax out and wash the container and walla you have a place to store your loose change, paper clips, push pins, etc...

~I am currently setting here watching one of my favorite movies Marie Antoinette. This movie has it all in my opinion. Aesthetically it is off the charts - the set design is unreal - so beautiful and pleasing to the eye.

~I think one of my favorite things besides the amazing soundtrack, which on a side note is so unexpected it works, but the color palette of this movie is so calming. Its soft and understated. This movie is pure inspiration for me...

And Sofia Coppala is a genius.

So here we go...

Here is my vision for this blog. First, I want this blog to be a reflection of me - the things I enjoy, love, see, do and the friends I meet along the way.

I enjoy design, shopping in antique stores, thrift stores and anything vintage. I have a special place for pre-loved things. Things that were once cherished by someone else, I feel like I can bring some joy back to the forgotten.

My car is usually filled with vintage finds and old coffee cups... things aren't perfect and precise. I'm soon to be 25 and am on a journey to who knows where but I'm trying my best to enjoy the ride....
